A potential flight student knows little about the flight training process and what to expect. The instructor holds the key to making this student successful in learning to fly. A flight instructor needs to be a reliable continuous resource for all the student’s questions and concerns.
The student and their instructor form a team with the common goal of successfully producing a pilot. These team members need to review questions from each other’s perspective. For example, what drives a student’s decision to learn to fly? What makes them choose between continuing to train and quitting? What are the instructor’s goals in accepting the teaching challenge? Will the team members be compatible? Some important characteristics of every successful team include mutual trust, honesty, respect, and a common purpose.
The best instructors will transfer to the new pilots the knowledge and skills necessary to ensure confidence, competence, and safety throughout the student’s training. Participants in this session will learn effective strategies and techniques that will ensure that the student will trust the instructor, trust the aircraft, trust the process, and enjoy their flight training experience.
Ultimately, the student will earn their pilot certificate, love their experience and share their enthusiasm for flying with others. The benefits of a successful training program to both the pilot and the instructor are quite gratifying.
